Large black circle, red circle, and medium black circle.
Arrows with questions for Subject and Object:
One arrow with questions “Who is it that? What is it that?”
One arrow with questions “Whom? What?”

Writing tray with long strips of paper.
- Invite the child to the lesson.
- Bring the box of wooden analysis symbols.
- Bring the writing tray.
- Get familiar with the new material.
- Place arrows and circles in proper place.
Large black circle followed by arrow “Who is it that? What is it that?” followed by the red circle followed by the arrow “Whom? What?” followed by the medium black circle.
- Ask the child to read the arrows.
- Write something such as “Nicholas throws snowballs.”
- Ask the child to read it.
- Ask the child to act it out.
- “What is the action?”
- “Can you cut out the action?”
- Ask the child to place the action on the red circle.
- Place the appropriate arrow directed to the subject.
- Read the arrow then the word.
- Ask “Who is it that throws?”
- Ask the child to place “Nicholas” on the large black circle.
- Place the appropriate arrow directed to the object.
- Ask the child, “Nicholas throws what?”
- Ask the child to place “snowballs” on the medium black circle.
- Ask the child to read it all together.
- Repeat this process with a few sentences.
- Show the child the Reading Analysis Chart #1.
- Inform the child that he can write his own sentences and use them here.
To help the child understand the meaning of words in a sentence, and the position of words, so that he can read with better understanding.
The child begins to talk and write more correctly by becoming more conscious of the change in meaning when the position of words are changed.
